As you can imagine all of us in the Carolinas are very proud of what our Carolina Panthers have accomplished and achieved this past season. Now we have the privilege and the honor to move into Superbowl 50 to face the Denver Broncos. You may hear the term, “Keep Pounding” associated with the Panthers in many different ways. We wanted to give you a little back ground on that term while introducing you to one of the Panthers of old and a driving spirit that not only fuels the Panthers and their fans on the field but off the field as well.
Keep Pounding has become a team mantra in honor of late Carolina Panthers player and coach Sam Mills. Mills first used the phrase “Keep Pounding” as a coach in an emotional speech to the team prior to the Panthers’ playoff game versus the Dallas Cowboys on Jan. 2, 2004. He spoke about commitment, dedication to teammates, team effort and never giving up. Mills asked the players to “Keep Pounding.”
The spirit of Keep Pounding encourages cancer patients, survivors and their loved ones to always “Keep Pounding” to overcome obstacles in their lives, just as we hope that someday a cure will be found and cancer will be overcome.
Similarly, the on-going mission of Keep Pounding is to raise vital funds for important cancer research and patient support programs for the Levine Cancer Institute at Carolinas Medical Center. Panthers fans have supported the initiative in a variety of ways. Contributions are generated through team fundraisers, the assistance of team partners and valued donations from community organizations and individuals.
We wish “River Boat Ron, Super Cam” and their Pro-Bowl cast of characters a well played game in the upcoming Super Bowl 50. It is through the Attitude, Planning and Execution that they have had the success that they have had this year. Bring us home the “W” fellas and our first NFL Championship.
